This distinction marks his third PhD, reinforcing his lifelong dedication to scholarly excellence and his belief that leadership must be deeply anchored in continuous learning. The award was personally presented by His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim, Chancellor of NDUM, during the university’s 15th Convocation Ceremony 2025.
NDUM selected Honorary Commander Dato’ Sri Dr Irmohizam for the top accolade based on his exceptional academic performance, impactful research output, and significant contributions to the advancement of social sciences, public policy, and leadership development in Malaysia.
WTCKL noted that this accomplishment further strengthens the organisation’s reputation as one led by a scholar-practitioner of rare distinction, an individual who excels across the spheres of trade, business events, corporate governance, and research-driven leadership. The centre emphasised that knowledge-based leadership is now a critical catalyst for elevating Malaysia’s Business Events ecosystem and reinforcing the nation’s position as a premier destination for global conventions, exhibitions and international trade initiatives.
Reflecting on the achievement, Honorary Commander Dato’ Sri Dr Irmohizam said:

“This achievement is not only the result of dedication and passion for knowledge, but also a renewed motivation to continue strengthening WTCKL, the industry I lead, and contributing to the nation’s progress. Knowledge is not merely an academic milestone, it is the foundation for innovation and for remaining visible, relevant and reliable.”
His academic accomplishment is expected to further enhance WTCKL’s strategic direction as Malaysia accelerates the development of its MICE and business-events sectors amid rising regional competition.
Honorary Commander Dato’ Sri Dr Irmohizam also expressed deep appreciation to NDUM, especially his main PhD supervisor, Prof. Dato’ Dr Norhasni binti Zainal Abiddin, Senior Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Strategic Development), for her mentorship and guidance throughout his doctoral journey.
WTCKL extended its heartfelt congratulations, describing the milestone as fully aligned with the institution’s values of professionalism, excellence and transformational leadership, all of which are embodied by Honorary Commander Dato’ Sri Dr Irmohizam in his ongoing efforts to elevate Malaysia’s standing in the global Business Events arena.
THE LEDGER ASIA VIEWS
