Kuala Lumpur, 4 March 2026 – Lim Seong Hai Capital Berhad (“LSH Capital”) marked the closing of the Chinese New Year festivities with a unique cultural programme titled “云端挥毫·城市同书 – Calligraphy Above the City”, held at the HEMISFERA Luxury Sky Hall at Kuala Lumpur Tower.
The event, organised in conjunction with Chap Goh Mei, traditionally celebrated as the final day of the Lunar New Year season, brought together more than 30 calligraphy artists, members of the public and students in a celebration of heritage, unity and artistic expression.
The programme was co-organised with The Federation of Calligraphy Society Malaysia and featured a vibrant lineup of activities including a Lion Dance performance and a live collective calligraphy session conducted high above the Kuala Lumpur skyline.
The event was also attended by Teo Nie Ching, highlighting the significance of cultural heritage initiatives in Malaysia’s multicultural landscape.
Malaysia Book of Records Achievement
A key highlight of the event was a successful attempt to set a record in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) under the title “Highest Altitude Calligraphy Writing Event in a Skyscraper.”
The record attempt involved a large-scale collaborative calligraphy creation carried out by participating artists and guests at Kuala Lumpur Tower, symbolising festive blessings, prosperity and unity.
By hosting the calligraphy session at one of Malaysia’s most recognisable landmarks, the event combined cultural tradition with a distinctive urban setting overlooking the city skyline.
Celebrating Malaysia’s Multicultural Identity
Reflecting Malaysia’s diverse cultural heritage, the programme also featured participation from individuals representing different communities.
Among them was Khairil Faizal Hj Othman, who contributed a calligraphy piece written in Jawi, while a representative from MBOR participated by writing Tamil script.
The cross-cultural participation highlighted the broader aim of the event: promoting appreciation of traditional arts while strengthening national unity through shared cultural experiences.
Cultural Heritage and ESG Commitment
LSH Capital described the initiative as part of its broader Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) agenda, particularly under the “Social” pillar, which focuses on community engagement and cultural preservation.
According to Lim Keng Cheng, traditional arts such as Chinese calligraphy play an important role in connecting generations and preserving cultural values.
He noted that hosting the event in conjunction with the Chinese New Year season created an inclusive platform where the public could actively participate in cultural appreciation.
Meanwhile, representatives from the Federation of Calligraphy Society Malaysia emphasised that presenting calligraphy at a prestigious location like Kuala Lumpur Tower helped elevate the traditional artform to a wider audience.
Tourism and Cultural Experiences
The initiative also coincides with Kuala Lumpur Tower’s 30th anniversary celebrations, marking a milestone for the iconic landmark.
Khairil Faizal said bringing traditional art into immersive environments such as Kuala Lumpur Tower allows visitors to experience cultural heritage in new ways while supporting Malaysia’s tourism and cultural promotion efforts.
By combining heritage, art and iconic urban landmarks, the event created a memorable cultural moment that reinforces Malaysia’s identity as a diverse society where traditions continue to evolve and inspire new generations.
